Baby Basics: Care of the Newborn

     There is no reason to be overwhelmed when tending to a new baby's needs if you are knowledgeable of what to expect.  Baby Basics will prepare you with the basic skills necessary to meet the needs of that special little someone.  Topics include normal baby behavior, developmental milestones, comforting techniques, sleep cycles, baby gear, car seat safety, and proper assessment and treatment in times of illness.

Baby Basics is designed to assist new Parents, Grandparents, and siblings in transitioning from hospital to home. 
Class Fee: $35.00

 

Infant and Child CPR and First Aid

     Knowledge of CPR is vital for anyone who is involved in the life of an infant or child.  Class is lead by a certified CPR instructor from the St. Charles County Ambulance District.  Class attendees must provide hands on participation.

     CPR Certification is available with some classes.  Please be sure to inquire prior to registration.

Class Fee:   Individual:  $35.00 / Couples: $60.00
Certification: $50 per person

 

Conscious Fathering

     Let's face it…the bravest man can become terrified at the thought of being left alone with a newborn baby.  Conscious Fathering is designed to minimize fear while maximizing confidence.  New and expecting fathers are given the opportunity to gain hands on experience in feeding, diapering, bathing, soothing and bonding.

Informal class topics include:    
Baby Basics, Parental Roles, Spousal Support, and  Life with a Little One

Class Fee:  $25.00

 

Breastfeeding 101

     Breastfeeding promotes optimal health &  a strong bond between mother and baby.  Breastmilk is the natural method of providing nutrients to your baby, however the art of breastfeeding does not come naturally to everyone.  Breastfeeding 101 provides parents with the skills & knowledge to be successful.  Learn the fundamentals of breastfeeding as well as first hand tips on ways to manage the challenges that you may encounter.  Class is lead by an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant or a Certified Breastfeeding Counselor.

Class Fee $35.00

 

Infant Nutrition

     Choosing how to feed your baby is an important decision that has life-long affects for the growth and development of your infant.  Your personal experience or what you have learned from family, friends and teachers is likely to influence your attitude and perceptions.  Even after your baby starts eating solid foods, his primary source of nutrients are obtained from breast milk or formula.  Our Infant Nutrition Class is designed to guide you through the nutritional phases of infancy. 

Nutritional needs for infants, first foods introductions for baby, breastfeeding/formula feeding - Is my baby getting enough?  Topics also include foods to aid in digestion, eliminate colic and thrush, ways to build a healthier eater and an interactive class discussion.

Class Fee: $45.00

 

The Happiest Baby Class

     The Happiest Baby Class is dedicated to teaching parents an innovative new approach to quickly calming crying infants less than 4 months of age and helping them sleep longer.  In addition, the class assists in the bonding process between parent and infant.  This extraordinary class, based on the work of Dr. Harvey Karp, MD, FAAP, has the potential of reducing that demoralizing crying to just minutes a day. 

Class Fee: $50.00 / series

Yoga

     Yoga is beneficial for elevating mood and energy levels, releasing tension, lowering stress and anxiety levels, as well as assisting in relaxation by clearing the mind of stressors associated with pregnancy and motherhood.

     As a tool to promote wellness, Yoga improves coordination and balance, assists with good posturing, boosts the immune system, reduces pain, and improves quality of sleep.

     Our yoga classes are for expectant mothers in their second and third trimester, those who are recovering from delivery and anyone who is interested in attending an intimate class that improves body, mind and spirit.

Parent / Infant Yoga

     This class allows you to tend to your baby's needs such as nursing, diapering, and comforting while you reconnect with your body, mind and spirit by combining stretching and movement with breathing.  Part of the class will incorporate special time between you and your infant through interactive pose.

Baby Sign

     Long before your baby can speak, she has the ability to understand speech and wants to communicate. Have you ever wondered what your baby is trying to tell you during a babbling spell?  Parents often find themselves puzzled by the sounds and facial expressions made by their wee one.  Baby Sign Language takes much of the guesswork out of understanding your infant's wants, needs, and thoughts. Our Baby Sign Series allows you to communicate with your infant as early as 6 months of age.  Improve communication as early as the first class session!

Dunstan Baby Language


     Your baby will cry less and settle faster as you learn the sounds for hunger, tiredness, need to burp, lower wind pain and discomfort.
For parents, infant crying often elicits feelings of stress, poor perceived competence and low self-esteem. By assisting the development of effective coping skills, the Dunstan Method has the potential to reduce the negative consequences of prolonged infant crying. Dunstan Baby Language is ideal for parents to learn during pregnancy or the first 12 weeks post birth.

Our certified Dunstan Baby Educator will:
